Immersive Bushcraft experiences in the Chilterns - Bushcraft with David Willis provides fun, informative and educational courses that teach wilderness living skills, nature connection and woodland crafts, with activities to suit all ages, abilities and needs!

Location

Scheduled courses and events are provided in the Chilterns, Buckinghamshire, and just a short drive from neighbouring home counties Hertfordshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire, or a train ride from London on the Metropolitan or Chiltern Line, the local station being Chalfont & Latimer.

Spoons - I've been oiling a few spoons, and they l

Spoons - I've been oiling a few spoons, and they look so much the brighter for a wipe of raw linseed oil. I carved most of these as Craftsperson in Residence at the Chiltern Open Air Museum @chilternoam 😊 Ok a couple of cups and a pallet knife have sneaked into the frame, and one spoon that is distinctly different - can you spot the odd one out?

With the exception of the odd-one-out, they are carved from cherry, when still green, or at least recently fuelled, cherry is a lovely wood to carve with hand tools.

We'll be carving using cherry on my next Whittling and Woodcraft Courses (dates to be scheduled in the Autumn).

Good morning from the woods - it's a cold wet day, but there are whisps of blue sky with a promise of a brighter day. Birds singing again after the down pour of freezing cold hail - they've are making the most of the warmer moments. And as I write this it's becoming brighter, with the possibility of the sun popping out to say hello.
